Global Knowledge Partnership

Global Knowledge Partnership (GKP) is a multi-stakeholder network promoting innovation and advancement in Knowledge for Development (K4D) and Information and Communication Technologies for Development (ICT4D). GKP brings together Public Sector, Private Sector and Civil Society organisations with the goal of sharing knowledge and building partnerships in K4D and ICT4D.

GKP is the platform for building effective Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships (MSPs) for promoting knowledge exchange and learning. GKP activities and programmes foster the innovative application of knowledge and technology to address development issues in four strategic themes:

  • Access to Knowledge
  • Education
  • Poverty Reduction
  • Resource Mobilisation

GKP also helps create opportunities for scaling up ICT initiatives and spreading their benefits, through MSP.

GKP operates globally as well as in seven regions: Africa; Central and Eastern Europe; East Asia; Latin America & the Caribbean; Middle East and North America; Oceania and South Asia. GKP members demonstrate ideas through projects on the ground and they influence policy at a global level.

GKP was founded in 1997. The network comprises over 100 members spanning 40 countries. It is governed by an elected Executive Committee and supported by a Secretariat based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Rinalia Abdul Rahim is Executive Director of the GKP Secretariat and one of the initiators of this collaborative award. She says:

"We wanted the Stockholm Challenge GKP Awards 2007 to focus on Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships in order to highlight the importance, relevance and value of these partnerships for development efforts. We look forward to welcoming the finalists to Kuala Lumpur in December 2007".
